Until you can get to the store. You can use laundry detergent in the sink and wash your dishes the old fashion way. Just rinse well. If you use hot water and wash the glasses first and let the silverware and anything else that has dried on food soak a few minutes it should be very easy. Good luck.

No answers from guys? Here's one anyway. I wouldn't do it. Dishwasher detergent is made for washing dishes in a dishwasher, not clothes in a washing machine. It contains bleaches and other chemicals that may damage the drum of your machine. I soak hard to bleach whites in dishawsher detergent and it works fine.

I wouldn't if I were you...you'll end up with a room full of soap suds....what you can do is scrape them really good and put them through a wash cycle or just the rinse cycle and the water is so hot it is gonna kill the germs and get them clean without the dish detergent as long as they're not stuck on foods....

NO, it is NOT OK to use laundry detergent in the dishwasher. The chemical makeup is different than that of dishwasher detergant...that is why they make it!!
Hope you don't break your dishwasher. It is an expensive item to repair!

If you use anything besides automatic dishwashing detergent you will end up with suds all over the floor. Trust me on this one !!!

Nope. When I was a resident advisor, my residents next door tried this. They called me so I could contact maintenence for them--because their kitchen was FILLED with suds.

NO!! If it doesn't do damage to your dishwasher, it will most likely do damage to your floor when the suds overflow!

I think you might have to clean up a lot of suds if you do.

There is a difference between the two. I believe the chemicals they use are different.
