it hurts a little, but probably not 1/2 as much as you think it will.
It might get a little bruised at first for a couple days (that's normal)
You have to keep it in for a good 3 months without changing jewelery. Make sure you buy good jewelery and that you get it done at a state licensed place of business.
The care is easy, I cleaned mine with antibacterial soap daily, and Band-aid makes an awesome product that you can use also - it comes in a pump and foam comes out. Also, they will probably advise you to use warm saline solution daily. Also, you must turn it just like you normally would for an ear piercing.
Other than that it's really simple.. it only take a few seconds and it's done!
Good Luck To You !!

You should know that I think pierced belly buttons look gross.
You've probably got a perfectly good innie to begin with. You do realize that you can stick jewels and things in an innie and they'll stay there without putting any holes in your body, don't you?

As an acupuncturist these regions of the body are really important zones that effect your entire system.
The top of the belly button is directly related to your digestion system and can effect it in a negative way.
The bottom of the bell button is directly related to your reproductive system and it has both seen that it can permanently effect that area of your body as well.

i had mine done about 10 years ago. It never healed and i still have a funny looking scar. The flesh there is just to thick, unless you have one of those little flaps of skin there for it. I think it is just a fad anyway. When you get older and relize that only teenage girls have it it will seem like a waste of $$. Get a tattoo. They are much more beautiful and a better artistic impression of yourself.

I wanted it so when it got infected I treated it with witch hazel, 3 or 4 times a day. I also used salt water to wash it off before hand. I love having it pierced.

Its not very painful to get it done, its like a pinch. It costs about $50 with body jewelry. There is minimal maintance, just washing it for the first few weeks with antibacterial soap. After that there is nothing to do.
