just break it to her in a nice way..............no point delaying it or lieing to her, tell her you will provide good reference and will do what ever you can for her but sorry about this.....tell her she did a good job.give her time to find another job if you can...like 2 weeks or what ever you can accomodate.

Tell her that you've been thinking a lot about it lately and finally came to a conclusion that it would be best if you two parted ways. But give her time to find another job, say 2 weeks or a month if you wish.

Just be honest with her and yourself as to why. Here you ask a question but give little background so some assume there is more than a working relationship. If it only a working relationship just end it, but if it is/was more than a working relationship then grow up and learn to express yourself honestly and then you will be able to answer your own question.

invite her to a busy fancy restaurant or perhaps starbucks. Then tell her, "Friday, I do not want you to work for me anymore" she'll be too embarassed to make a scene and you stand up and walk away...
simple as that.
