"A Bird of Courage
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN (emphasis by responder), who proposed the turkey as the official United States' bird, was dismayed when the bald eagle was chosen over the turkey. Franklin wrote to his daughter, referring to the eagle's 'bad moral character,' saying, 'I wish the bald eagle had not been chosen as the representative of our country! The turkey is a much more respectable bird, and withal a true original native of America.'"

That was Benjamin Franklin; he had some pretty good arguments, too! On the other hand, I'd hate to think that turkeys would be protected, and that we couldn't eat one for Thanksgiving. Would be we eating bald eagle instead? Beautiful bird, but I have to admit it sounds kinda stringy to me :-)

God knows where you get that from probably a re-written history essay. Apart from my country what Turkey does typically is to pick you from the leg anywhere.Perhaps he got the idea from there.
