It's interesting because in Canada while many Hispanics in the US are seen as Brown, many of us in Canada are seen as White (at least by many of the youths). I'm not joking. People actually have arguments with me on my colour. I tell people I'm Brown, yet they feel they can tell me what I am. Many Americans, I'm sure would find this to be very strange because it is common knowledge that many of our people have Native running through their veins. How is it that were White? Many of the people in my class who are well into their teens still think Latinos are White. The ignorance is overwhelming. Even these two Chileans would insist that Latinos were not considered Brown and other non-Latinos who know nothing about Latin America felt they could say to me what I was. Interestingly, many people ask me in an interested way "are you Spanish?" when they know little about Spain or Latin America for that matter. Many also tend to use Spanish interchangably with Hispanic or Latino.

Hey Gustavo CL, I already knew that about Argetinians and Chileans, and about the people in Honduras so don't assume things like that!

What is sadder is that there are many places in the world where people do not bother to learn about people in other countries. Your situation is not different from what happens in other countries.

I believe that many people may not even want to know about Latin America. Maybe lack of knowledge or certain bad apples here and there. There are many people who have different perceptions on this topic. Some people may think Latinos are brown. The thing is it depends who you ask. In your class they may think that natives are white. Other people may consider them brown. Like what Denny said, it happens all over the world.

Some latinos are white, some are brown, some are black, soma are asian. I find strange that you as a latino don't know that. If 90% of the people in Honduras are brown it definetly doesn't mean that 90% of Argentinians and Chileans are "brown".

Okay, so I'm sorry. I didn't understand your question entirely.

But in fact people in all the world knows very little about any place that is not Europe, North America and the place he/she live. That's sad, I'm not like that.

It's not sad at all. Canadians also have to learn about people form China, Japan, Indian, Pakistan, the rest of the Islamic world, from Africa, from Europe, from the U.S. ... hey, there is a limited amount of time to learn about everything.

That is not strange look how little people in the USA knew about the middle east before we had a war with them. I had never heard of a muslim. Or islamic religion.
