I'm curious - - when your baby is considered 5 months, is it actually 5 months from the day he was born, or do you count every 4 weeks as a month? If I count the weeks, he's already 5 months. If I go by his birthday, he won't be 5 months for another 2-3 weeks. Anybody know what I mean? What 's the scoop? Thanks!

Lets say for the discussion that your baby was born on Jan.1
You baby would be five months on June 1st until July 1st.

Figure it this way:
Jan 1 to Feb 1 = month one
Feb 1 to Mar 1 = month two
Mar 1 to Apr 1 = month three
Apr 1 to May 1 = month four
May 1 to Jun 1 = month five

let me ask you something, when you turn say 35, do you go by the every 4 weeks, or the day you were born? You go by the day you were born right? So, why wouldn't you do the same for a baby? I was born December 19th, 1984; so when May 19th 1985 hit, I was 5 months old. Not 2-3 weeks before the 19th of May, but right on the DATE.

I count weeks from the date of birth. So if he were born on April 1, then he was 4 weeks on May 1, 8 weeks on June 1, etc.

when I had to take my baby to the hospital at 7 weeks they actually refused to put her down as being seven weeks old but instead kept insisting she was one month old because she came three weeks early!!!! That is how the doctors gauge it. Because she was born at 37weeks they totally screwed up her actual age on purpose. Of course you will go by her birthday!

months go by the day of the month they were born and weeks go by the day of the week they were born. for example, my baby was born sept 27 so he will be 8 weeks tomorrow, and will be 2 months on Nov 27th....make sense???

For pregnant women and for infants, the count is in weeks and not months.

You will have an error when counting by months because there are long months and short months especially February.

One month is 4.34+ weeks. Its confusing and therefore its not reliable.

Counting by weeks is more accurate.

Just go from the month he was born. Months vary in size and are usually more than 4 weeks. Either way ... it's not a big deal either way you say it.
