There are very few skills that cross over, tackling maybe, but even that is different in execution. There's no way professional American Footballers could hope to play the top rugby players at rugby and win, they wouldn't have the endurance to last, and if they did, they wouldn't have the skill set to compete in rucks, scrums or mauls. Likewise there's no way the top rugby players in the world could manage to figure out how to run plays (on offence or defence) and compete with the top American footballers. There's no blocking in rugby, and no real equivalent. If there's no blocking on a play in AF, there's no play. @Eagles fan, I doubt the AF players would even get a look in, we are talking the TOP players of each sport here. There are many different ways of attacking in rugby, generally only the two in AF (every play is a variation on a run or throw), the rugby players would only have to put in a chip kick, set a maul or run a wrap around backline move to completely disorient the football players. In fact, I doubt even defensive NFL players could figure out on the fly how to defend a tricky backline move. It takes years of practice, understanding and experience.
