I want to send my boyfriend a gift for christmas, but he's in prison, and I don't know what the guidelines are. Can someone tell me? And can I send him Pies and Cakes and other random goodies like that? And can anyone visit him, or do they have to be family? I'M JUST TOO NAIVE!! Educate me please?!

it all depends on where he is in prison and what he is in for which determines his status as minimum, medium or maximum security. If you call the prison they will direct you to a set of guideline that they have for each prisoner and what they can and cannot receive it is usually the policy of prisons to let anyone visit the prisoner as long as that prisoner has that person listed on their can visit roster. having worked in a prison I can say from experience that what many prisoners love is letter and photos keep the photos clean and cool and they will most likely let them thru you may get them back but that is determined by what and how much they are allowed to keep. Try donating a whole box of paperback books to the prison library. again they will have to pass inspection but if they let them in your bf will become very popular when everyone realizes that he was the reason that they have different books to read. above all get in touch with the prison if you can arrange it a visit from you would be the best possible thing that could happen just pay attention to the dress code so you don't get turned away good luck he is lucky to have you many gfs leave their bfs when they go in and that is harder than being in in the first place

Hi,
I've been where you're at and I think the best thing to send is...YOU!! Yes, you can visit him. Call to get hours, etc. Go with a few of his close friends or his mom (if yall are close) to see him. If that's not possible, look up the things you can't/can send him. I'm sure most food is a can't. but you never know. If nothing else write him lots of letters/send him pix letting him know you and his friends and family love/and are praying for him. Why don't you ask him bout some of this stuff? My bf told me pretty much everything I knew bout visiting, etc.
Good Luck!!

Contact the prison. See if they have a website or something. They should have some sort of guidelines handy as the holidays are fast approaching and of course there are others with families and loved ones who want to send them things.

Be prepared to have it inspected though. So you might want to be careful about what you send.

you cant send him anything exept a card and a picture.you could also get him a subscription to the newspaper or a magazineso he has something to read.if you get him a magazine it has to be sent from the publisher right to him so if you do,get your bfs adress there and just get it sent to him.also,if you get him a magazine sub. i would call the prison to see if he is allowed to have it there.there are some magazines that they dont allow, like fhm...etc.something else good to give him is money.you can take it right to the prisons office and he will get money on his books.he can then buy things off canteen like soup, coffee, chips and candy.that stuff is nice because they hardly feed you anything there and you have to drink water.he could get some kool aid at least with some money.he probably would need some money to buy socks and boxers because you only have the ones you go in with and if you want to change them every day,you have to buy them from the prison.anybody can visit him but they have to be on his visitors list.if you talk to him have him add you and whoever wants to visit him.also when you visit, you have to show picture id..when you visit him,you will be behind a window and have to talk to him through a phone no contact with him.

It depends on the state, if he's in a max, medium or low security place! From my time in early to mid 80s in NY they didn't allow home backed cakes! Ask him to put you on his visitors list, if you are 18+ you should be able to visit! You can find info on this by typing "your state Prisons" in google there you'll find visitors guidelines! Good luck Sweety!

Well my brother was helping search visitors at Danbury and a female co-worker guard lifted a woman's breast and a fried chicken fell out, I guess that is a real popular item to smuggle in. YES that's the truth! No objects, metal, plastic or fiber that could be used to fashion a weapon are allowed, if you contact the prison I'm sure they can give you guidelines.

You might wanna check with the prison where he is at about list of stuff you can send him. As far as visiting, you want to make sure your name is on his visitor list.

If you don't want to write him, next time when you call or he calls you, make sure he has your name on the visitor list so that you can see him. And no, you don't have to be his family to see him as long as your full name is on that list.

Believe it or not, but you can actually go to the prison and they will give you a list of can and cants.

Pies and cake are a cant, people still try to bake knives or files into them.

The rules are different for every state and for every security level...At http://prisontalk.com/forums/index.php if you go to the forum for the state where he's being held, you can find out everything you need to know about the prison he is in from women who actually have to deal with all the rules and regs all the time.

You need to call the prison he's in and ask them. Each prison has their own rules and regulations as to what is allowed or not.
