With Mel Gibson and Michael Richards killing themselves, what is to become of racial epithets among stars? Is there a double standard among black and white comedians? Chris Rock talks about how not enough dead crackers there are in his monologue and he is invited to the white house. Why don't white people protest against racism against whites the way blacks protest against racism towards blacks?

I think white people don't get as upset because (for the most part) white people think it's BS, and whites don't have a long history of racism being inflicted on them. As a bi-racial woman, I don't particularly like to see anyone have to put up with racial slurs, it's such a low-blow, cheap shot, and requires no imagination. Sometimes I can see humor in somewhat racist stereo-types, but I think it depends on where it comes from. I think most humans are pretty intuitive, I think most people can tell if a joke is a "joke" or if a "joke" is an insult, coming from someone who has some really dark feelings behind it. I was a huge fan of the show Seinfeld, and Kramer was one of my favorite characters. I was shocked and saddened to see Michael Richards' behavior on stage. He could've easily insulted the guys who were heckling him without getting racial. When he did that, he didn't just hurt the guys who were being jerks, he also hurt many of his fans. I believe he is sorry, but not for the right reason.
