UNPLUG THE VACUUM FIRST! Be careful! My biggest concern is that the conductors (wires) are exposed (not insulated). If you were to simply tape around the cord and wires you may be creating a short (the wires touch) which would occur immediately when the vacuum is plugged in OR as the wire is flexed during use (the wires come in contact with each other). This could cause a fire, among other things.
If the damage is not too far from the end of the cord you may be able to cut off the damaged portion and replace the plug or the connections on the end at the machine.
IF the conductors AND the insulation on them is intact and you feel you must make a TEMPORARY fix be certain to tape well above and below the damaged section.
If you want to make a more permanent fix OR you can see the bare wire(s) - and you are competent enough to do it- cut the cord, strip, and solder the leads and thoroughly insulate the
joint(s).
Obviously, the BEST thing to do is replace the cord. You may be able to get a generic replacement at a parts supply house and not have to go through the manufacturer which would probably be more expensive. GOOD LUCK! and.........Oh yes! Keep the dog away from the vacuum cleaner!

RE:
Chewed Vacuum Cleaner Cord?
My dog chewed through part of my vacuum cleaner cord, can I tape it with electrical tape to save myself from shock? I have family coming over and can't afford to get a new vacuum right now.

Tape it as long as the wires are still intact and it was just the rubber insulation that got chewed. About 11 months ago I was vacuuming after some remodel work and I accidently left the vacuum sitting on the cord and it chewed it up. I felt badly because it really wasn't that old, I had bought it perhaps 6 months before this happened. My brother taped it up with electrical tape and I have been using it since then, no problems.

I don't recommend using electrical tape on it and continue using it. I would get the cord replaced by an electrician or contact the manufacturer and get a replacement cord.
I have purchased a replacement cord at Sears and it only took me 15 min to change the old one out. The cord was around $15. I'm sure most manufacturers have replacement parts.

My dog chewed my vacuum cleaner cord also, I just taped it up with black tape, and it's still working. If it still works I think it will be fine. Mine has been that way for about 8 months or so. Just be careful the tape is over any exposed wires, so you won't get shocked.
You can get the cord after your company go home, I think it will be ok for now

Make sure all the wire fibers are in the proper place before taping. Tape first one, then the other, did I mention to unplug the cord? This should work fine, no need for a new cord.

yes you can tape it, but make darn sure you keep ALL wires apart from each other with a lot of ELECTRICAL tape,
and at the same time, call or go by a repair store that usually have them in stock and you could put anew cord in for a little bit of money instead of buying a new vac...
and if you do use tape, only use the vac for short times and do not use it for to many times, because it will heat up, and you will have a problem..
go get the new cord .it is easy to put in..
good luck

NO! If two or more bare wires touch, even under tape, it will cause a nasty explosion when you plug it in. If you must repair it, you have to cut out the 'chewed' part. Solder the same colored wires to each other. Don't just twist them, they will come apart at the most inopportune time. Then tape each wire separately.
THIS IS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX!!!!!!!!

You say he is half springer they are a hyper breed and so need plenty of mental and phyiscal exercise. It maybe he needs more exercise and maybe activates that make him use his brain. Springers are always sniffing in the undergrowth looking for buirds to flush so you could try hiding toys on your walk or in the garden.
