P = 46
Side x = Side y
x = y = z+5
x + y + z + 5 = 46
x + x + x = 46
3x = 46
x = 46/3cm
x = y
So, y = 46/3cm
z + 5 = 46/3
z = 46/3 - 5
z = 31/3 cm

In an isoceles triangle, two sides are equal. These equal sides are usually refered to as the triangle's legs. The other side is usually rfered to as the triangle's base.

The perimeter of ANY triangle is the sum of the sides:
p = a + b + c

We know that the two "legs" are equal, and that they are 5 cm greater than that of the base. We also know that the sum of the three sides is 46 cm.

If we let x equal the length of the base, that would make the legs of the triangle "x + 5". Now we set up our equation:
a + b + c = 46
x + (x + 5) + (x + 5) = 46 --- Combine like terms...
3x + 10 = 46 --- Subtract 10 from each side...
3x = 36 --- Divide each side by 3...
x = 12

Now that we know that the base is 12 cm, we can tell what the legs are by adding 5 to 12...
length of one of the legs = x + 5
length of one of the legs = (12) + 5
length of one of the legs = 17

Answer: The lengths of the sides of the triangle are: 12 cm, 17 cm, and 17 cm.

Got the answer at last!!! you gave me quite a challenge. Its simple.............. an isoceles triangle always has two sides which are the same............so therefore the sides which are 5cm greater than the base are the two equall sides. then you have to find a number that is very close to the perimeter but also cosidering in mind that if you do find that number subtrate 5cm from it and add it to the totall. OK getting confusing there!!

I got the figure or number 17 which when doubled to represent the two equally sides give you = 34! If you then take 17 and minus 5 you get 12! then add 34 to 12........................34+ 12 = 46!! it gives you your perimeter!!! Get it now?!! Kul it was nice helping!!

if ya need help in any othe maths question.........HOLA!!!

2x+y=46
x-y=5 add the 2 equations
3x=51 x=17
17-y=5 y=12
isoceles triangle , 2 sides are equal thus the two equal sides are17cm each while the base is 12.

b + 2(b+5) = 46----> b = 12, (b+5) = 17
