On the issue of taxes, the idea seems to be that Liberals are pro-put all the taxes on the rich, while the Conservatives are more the richer you are, the less taxes you pay. While I know that not everybody in either political party feels that way, I agree with neither. My stance on the issue: a sliding scale, the richer you are, the more you pay in taxes. Comments?

That would punish the rich for working hard? Many in the low class DO work hard, often more than one job just too keep food on the table. And by proxy, you're saying that the "lazy" of the low class should be the ones punished by paying higher taxes. The idea is an equal percentage, rather than actual monetary amount: 13% based on income, perhaps.

Flat tax. No matter your income, you pay 15% and we are done. Every American pay his 15% and rich or poor contributes the same % of his/her earnings.

This Liberal agrees that rich folks should not be punished for their success.

Do away with all the tax confusion and loopholes and let everyone pay their fair share.

I assume you mean taxes as a percentage of income. The rich currently do pay nearly all the tax revenues in this country.

(28 percent of a million dollar income is a lot more than 15 percent of a 22,000 dollar salary).

What is not understood by many is that people that invest money into the economy- by buying stock in businesses, actually create jobs and wealth. This is why conservatives are for reducing taxes on people who invest- it is not to help out the rich, but to help out everyone.

define rich for me. how much money do you have to make to be rich? the top 2% are paying 20% of the taxes and the top 20% are paying 40%. that leaves the middle class and the poor, who literally do not pay taxes. this is a dead horse. class warfare. your premise between liberals and conservatives is not quite accurate. conservatives believe in capitalism, whereas, liberals believe the government should take care of you from cradle to grave. by the way, guess who is stuck paying the rest of the tax bill?

The rich make a lot of money, but we shouldn't be penalized for it. Knowledge of the system and having excellent advisors and friends to teach you the loopholes and conditions of laws is invaluable. We pay the max amount of taxes in certain areas. I like it the way it is now. If you want the benefits of the rich, get wise and use the tactics of them through competant help.

the wealthier a person is the more taxes he or she pays but most of the time the ones who make more than the average will invest in stocks bonds etc and that gives them a tax break , but it also helps the poorer people by making more jobs etc and I can't think of a better system unless we want to go communist then we have a few people who are on top instead of thousands

If everybody pays 20% of their income, the rich WILL pay more taxes. No?
Liberals seem to think the rich (anybody who makes more than $30,000/year) should pay 50% for some strange reason.

The rich should not be penalized for having money, nor should the poor be rewarded for not having it.

That makes you a liberal. How do you think people get rich? They work hard for it. So lets punish them for that so all you freeloaders and clock punchers can get a free ride.
