trying to clean his image up. Everyone associates him with the number 8. So, he wanted a new clean start.
He chose the number he wore in Jr. Varsity.

Plus, I am sure it won't hurt the jersey sales and merchandising for the NBA!

Because he's a selfish money grubbing gloryhog who thinks so much of himself that he would call himself the next Jordan. MJ was 23, Kobe takes 24. The next, I think not.
