This is a serious question so please don't laugh. Can saran wrap be used as a dental dam during oral sex or is it too fragile?

Pulled copy of _On the Safe Edge: A Manual for SM Play_ by "Trevor Jacques" (there are 4 co-authors on this book, including a physician and a dentist). On p. 136 of this very good manual, the authors state the following (direct quote):

"Some people have used Saran wrap instead of latex for prolonged rimming or oral-vaginal contact. This is an unsafe practice. Supposedly, Reynolds film is better than Saran, is better than Glad Wrap, is better than Handi-wrap. You'd have to be an engineer in polymer chemistry to understand why. It has something to do with micro-pores in the sheeting. If you're in the situation where you've just got to go down on someone, _NEVER_ use a barrier that says it's microwavable. [Emphasis is theirs.] This immediately means that there are micro-pores in the plastic. Good old-fashioned Reynolds film or Saran wrap is better."

On p. 215, when discussing "water sports", they recommend wrapping several layers of Saran wrap around the submissive, stating "one layer alone cannot prevent the transmission of viruses such as HIV".

My personal take, as a nurse: given my druthers, I'd use a dental dam FIRST by preference. Next choice would be a LATEX or NITRILE glove, split open, as a barrier (much less fragile than a condom).

Old-fashioned (non-microwavable) plastic wrap would be a very, very last choice---and I'd double-layer it, just in case--- but actually, I'd would rather say "heck with it" and do some other fun sexy hot things that DIDN'T involve fluid exchange risks....until I could get some dental dams.

Saran wrap would kill the moment, if you want to keep it safe just use a condom :s

Yes you can.
Just make sure it's loose enough to cover the ENTIRE area, and put some lube on the underside of the wrap (gives a nice feeling too). This will help to make sure it's not pulled too tightly and with the lube, it decreases risk of snagging and tearing.

No, saran wrap can get tiny holes in it.

Absolutely...use non-microwavable plastic wrap

and for a little fun...use the colored wrap...
color was added to the plastic wrap in the early '90's to make its use as Barrier protection attractive to the Lesbian community...

I mean really...who wants to color coordinate the inside of their fridge??

I've lissened to many many safe sex lectures and all of them have agreed that its just find as long as you cover the area and are careful not to rip or penetrate it.

:-D
