benzene and ethyne both have the same empirical formula of CH .if the mass of a mole of one of the compounds is 26 g, what is a possible mass of a mole other compound ?

Any multiple of 13 that yields a stable, uncharged molecular structure that contains only C and H. No such molecule as CH so 13 is out. 26 is taken. C3H3 (39) is a non-starter. And so it goes.

You don't get to a qualifying molecule until you get to C6H6 which is benzene.
