It is only considered "nerdy" by those who cannot grasp the concept of reading and playing music. (or any language other than english and words with more than 6 or 7 letters) The skill of playing an instrument requires patience and practice. There is no "instant gratification".

In the grand scheme of life, high school is only a very small portion of what a person ultimately achieves. The gift of music ability can remain and flourish an entire lifetime.

Have you looked at the other people in the band?

Actually most nerdy things require a skill and practice, I wish I could play the trumpet.

What tool do you play? i think of you could consistently prepare drills at homestead, like, supply your self instructions and stuff. Then there is co-ordinating with something of the band, and memorising your score sheet. consistently hear on your sectional chief. And remember, the conductor is the boss! (or the choreographer on your case)
