"MISSION ACOMPLISHED" was three years ago so why are we still there.
we all saw the prez in flight suit and codpiece and the MA sign in gigantic letters.... so why are we still there? What ELSE is it that we are doing? Is our presence there helping? Is it?

The troops are there because the Neo CONs want them there.

This was a disaster from the get go.
It was never planned using reason or inteligence. It is all some delusion and fantacy made up by criminals who deserve to be indicted for treason and more.

Simply because your president said he was going to "Stay the Course" .
It's a known fact that the war in Iraq will not be won militarily. The war in Iraq MUST be settled diplomatically. The best thing I could tell you is this: start paying attention to what your and my government is doing.
Remember, George W. Bush has said countless times that he was not going to abandon Iraq before the war is done, even though we have clearly lost this war. Right now, our troops are trying to keep the chaos of the civil war that is going on in Iraq under control and they're loosing.
CNN and Fox news is never going to tell you this....for news check out the Air America Radio site or The News Hour with Jim Lehrer (do a search for both websites). Therein you'll see the news that isn't reported.
Good question.

First, you have to know we were sent there for weapons of mass destruction. There aren't any and never were. As for troops being there-that country is literally a mess. I seen it first hand. how would we feel if people invades the US and tore up our homes, we had no power or water?? So, in short, we're there because we destroyed the place.
If we pulled out I think that they would probably find a leader similar to what Sadam was. Their religious beliefs are a way of life and after all, they could have done something about Sadam themselves if they hated him so bad. They didn't need Bush to do that for them.
The MA sign was publicity.
For now, troops are fighting insurgents. Mainly because they want us out of their territory. We have troops providing medical care, fuel, and trying to train the police and government.
I can't say if the presence is helping but one thing is for certain, if we don't stone cold pull out like in Vietnam...we will be there forever and the military will make it a permenant duty station. Right now, its a number game and politics.

Why do we fight in Iraq? Reasons according to Bush

Reason#1 Saddam has weapons of mass destruction and is in violation of UN resolutions

Reason#2 Iraq represents an imminent threat to the USA and supports Al Qaeda

Reason#3 Saddam is a brutal dictator

Reason#4 Saddam may have been behind 9/11

Reason#5 Iraq is the frontline in the War on Terror

Reason#6 We need to establish a democracy to be a beacon of freedom in the Middle East

Reason#7 We need to make sure Iraq can defend and govern themselves

Current reason: If we leave Iraq, we lose, and we will die in a future terrorist attack planned in Iraq funded by Iraqi oil

Your totally missing the point. The mission was accomplished, that being getting us in an unwinnable war; of us spending billions of dollars that would be better spent elsewhere; of turning the world's opinion against us; of turning "the war on terror" into the greatest terrorist recruiting tool since Afghanistan; of turning Iraq into a terrorist training camp; of giving Iran the freedom to now fast forward their nuclear ambitions;of getting hundreds of thousands of people dead or maimed; of bogging down the military to the point we can't react in any legitimate way to a now nuclear North Korea. Oh I guess most of us didn't know what the mission was. Oh and don't forget about Iran, another mission is in the offing.

When a superpower wants to let the world know they are stronger and wants to control the world, that is what happens. There needs to be a Unity to tell them enough, we Don't want War but we need Peace. Remember what happened with Germany, (Hitler), The world had to unify to say Stop, No More.
I can't wait for that day, because I am tired of hearing innocent people getting hurt and tired of the racial discrimination it has created toward Muslim people.

Mission accomplished was reference to pushing Saddam out .
We are still there because the terrorist regimes keep sending there people to disrupt Iraq.

Well, from a CBS news article, this is what he said it means: "The 'Mission Accomplished' sign, of course, was put up by the members of the USS Abraham Lincoln, saying that their mission was accomplished." -President Bush

I wonder why he didn't mention it at the time.

He was telling Halliburton you did it. You can have dibs on all the rebuilding contracts. You know all the stuff we destroyed in Iraq the bridges we blew up. You get to fix them for billions of dollars at taxpayers expense. Meanwhile if anybody needs me I am in Crawford. heh heh

I think that "Mission Accomplished" sign was just a way to congratulate the hardworking guys who had to put that banner up.

Then they all stood back and admired the great job they did of hanging that sign and agreed...the mission was accomplished.
