I had to give up my best friend...she chose drugs over our friendship. She threw away 10 years of our friendship after my many attempts to help her out, but you can't help the ones that don't want to be helped. Sometimes close friends grow apart, only to come back together years later. Then there are some that you never hear from again, or there are situations where you have no choice but to leave them behind, and that's what I had to do.

Only if you two are moving in opposite directions, or that friend is putting you in danger (see the above post about drugs). Otherwise, just let the friendship run its course.

No, you shouldn't they are mostly the ones to have your back. You should always have your closes friends no matter if you move across the world or anything.
