The idea of intellectuals forming a group and creating remote communities where certain negative aspects of society are removed, say religious belief, greed, competitiveness etc, isn't a new one, hence I though it would be a desirable idea to at least a few people.

I couldn't tell you how many people, but I for one would not. In Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, the government sets up a society of Alpha Pluses and we see the inevitable unravelling and downfall of such an undertaking.

Religious belief in and of itself is not, I think, negative. The contention that it breeds when foolishly wielded is.

any self-sustaining community needs people of various talents, besides being able to learn calculus. somebody has to lift the heavy stuff and without competition, there would be no need to improve. and no intellectuals would exist. however, i would like to go to the Marquesa island chain someday. how about there?

I think it would be great, but eventually we would all at some time become greedy, competitive, etc. Nice thought though kid.
