I'm babysitting for a 10 year old boy. His parents instructed me to give a suppository before bed if he has not gone poo the whole day per. his doctors orders.

Do I have him stand up for it or what? How can I make it non-painful? What do I do if he struggles? Is it better to use gloves?

I've tried calling them, but their phone seems to not have service/lost power.

Thanks for anybody who can help me. I'll award points for best answer.

i would definitely let him do it. He is at the age that he can do those things. Then i would inform the parents that it is NOT in you job description to put stuff up their kids @ss. Then i would never go back. At 10 years old there is no reason why a suppository should be used, unless some kind of allergy to Ex lax, either way it is not a job for the baby siter to take care of. The next thing you know youll be going to jail for fondeling him

John. If this exchange right into a self examination i ought to entertain the assumption as there are some unusual people available. yet not a expert one. regardless of what the affected person says, the physician in the tip is the single in-fee and likewise the single legally in charge. on a similar time as the physician could desperate to appreciate a persons' possibilities, i could be astounded if any physician could gain this if that made his job greater tricky and with that presented disadvantages. as an occasion, as he's examining the affected person internally there's a hazard of unfavourable the partitions, the physician explains this as its a hazard, yet if he exchange into wide awake, that should advance the probabilities of harm if he ought to declare circulate. Sorry yet my funds says its a tall tale.

This sounds weird to me.......I'd let the parents do it, if I were you. As a nurse, I would NEVER expect a babysitter to give a 10 year old child a suppository.

Why in the world would someone ask a babysitter to give a 10 year old a supp? The boy is old enough to this himself.

It usually tells on the package but you have him lay on his side and relax with his legs bent a lil. then you insert the suppository and tell him to wait until he really has to go. put a towel underneath him just in case.

Before bed?? I hope laundry day is tomorrow...
I wouldn't administer any medication of that type if I were babysitting.

Yikes, I think I would steer clear of that one. I don't think that's the kind of thing they should be leaving you to do. You might affect him for the rest of his life.

have him lay down on the bed (face down) - more likely to be able to relax the muscles in his bottom.

gloves and some lube (vaseline?) would help, sure.

it shouldn't be painful.

just awkward, eh?
