Ancient sources should include Plato, Aristotle, Epicurus, Epetitius.

the renaissance is known by its benevolent dictators. to machiavelli "the end justifies the means" as stated in the Prince. the renaissance gave way to nationalism -- have some good reading on all the names you quote in your question. it is a long answer.

a lot of ancient sources infulenced the Renaissance. Pick an area of study: art, anatomy, astronomy... you'll find a mix of classical and modern influences.
