The first trip is always weird! If you find a good doctor, they will make you feel comfortable. My doc talks to me about random stuff...like his horses, before i know it, its done. You really need to go get a check up. Im 22, I had 3 pap tests to come back abnormal (got is straightened out tho) so get the guts to go. Just check around for a doc...talk to friends, family, etc. Good luck

Going to the GYN isn't embarassing and shouldn't be looked as being embarassing - it's a necessity - bottomline. My first time going I had a male doctor and it was fine. You go through a cousiltation with the doctor and talk about your sexual history and whether or not you've used protection so he/she knows what the proceedure will be.
You go into the examination room there's a nurse that comes in with the doctor to observe that everything is done by proceedure. It's a two minute ordeal, that may or may not cause slight pain and then it's over.
Also a piece of advice, wear bakini or granny underwear when you go, and bring a pad, because they'll use lubricant and it gets a little messy afterwards.
Take care and see your doctor, if you don't you're only going to be hurting yourself in the long haul.

Unless you are looking forward to things being shoved up your vagina, I'd say yes. Just tell your doctor that its your first exam. Your doctor will explain everything that will be done.
You can expect a speculum be gently placed inside your vagina that will feel something like a dildo. The doctor will have to look to make sure everything is the right color and will use a small brush and spatula to collect some cells from your cervix. The doctor will also have to locate your uterus by placing 2 finger inside and the other hand on your abdomen.
That's about the worst of it. It only takes a few minutes. Be sure to inform the doctor if you have any allergies to latex or any lubricants. The doctor will probably use KY jelly.

It's not really that embarrassing as people like to make it sound.
It does feel a little weird having some doctor looking at your vagina but nothing horrible.
You're 23, you should start getting one done about once a year to every other year. It's not like they're looking in your vagina for fun, they're looking for problems that you might have. Another good thing about it is that they can detect cervical cancer early.

You should go...23 and never had an exam. Honey, they are not that embarassing - people are trained for this type of exam, but you should go. It's for your own good.

Your first visit will be understandably a bit embarassing but just remember they are looking at women all day every day.
After a few visits you will find that you become a lot more relaxed about it all. Good luck

Yes but most doctors make you feel very at ease and are quick and adapt at performing what they need to do and moving past it. I doubt a single woman on this planet relish the thought of an exam, but its so very crucial in saving your life and preventing terrible diseases like cancer from spreading.

When you first start out its pretty embarrassing, but luckily most gynecologists have that picture on the ceiling for you to look at, lol. Concentrate on that. Luckily after awhile, you realize that you have the same thing that the doctor has been looking at all day. All jokes aside, I recommend a female gynecologist. They tend to put you alittle more at ease.
