I think Josh ran out of ideas and if he saw Mischa's previous works, he could have made Marissa more interesting.
In Lawn Dogs, Mischa's character's mom says, "A popular girl is neither bored nor boring." Josh sadly broke that rule and made Marissa into a whiny, clueless and unlikable girl.
Marissa had potential up until Oliver. Then It went down hill from there. Why did Summer stop getting sloshed (she was hot boxing it and getting drunk up until Marissa's suicide attempt and then she sobered up and was played for comedy for some reason) ? Why did Marissa still remain clueless with guys even after Oliver? Why was Marrissa's mom turned from a witch to just misunderstood (which turned the victem of a mean mom into just a spoiled whiny brat)? Why was Marissa turned into a LUG (lesbian until graduation) instead of a popular lesbian that didn't die (they often die in movies, books and TV programs and technically did in this show too)? You can see Mischa's funny response on her character's death on You Tube.
There is always Lawn Dogs (really funny yet dark), Skipped Parts (imagine American Pie with actors the same age as their characters), Lost and Delirious (a very sad tale) plus The Oh in Ohio (a charming movie). Other movies one could watch is Pups (where she robs a bank), Tarts (imagine a younger Marissa complete with Summer and Oliver), and Octane (where Mischa is 16 and plays the love interest to a 25 year old actor. Oh and there is some Marissa and Julie like fighting too, but done better). She was in some other movies, some plays, did a book on tape and was on four TV shows before she got on The O.C. at 17. I'm waiting for Chasing Temptation (you can see the trailer on youtube), Closing the Ring and Hexxx.

SPOILERS-stop reading if you haven't watched season 4 yet.
Yes I liked her. I thought she had bad fashion sense, but she was pretty and she made the show good,especially the 1st season with Oliver. It's too bad they decided to kill her off! The show is too depressing to watch now cause they're all tryin to cope with her death and stuff, and plus she & ryan made a CUTE couple. it sux.

Most of the time I thought she was a d*ckhead, but she was ok sometimes. I still wish they hadn't killed her off though.

i didn't watch it that much, but i thought she was ok. i thought she was killed off b/c the actress was difficult to work with, not because the character was stale
