I got a 2002 ford escape, I have pushed everything that I can push and I can not find a way to set the trip meter to zero.
Any ideas, I do not have an owner's manual.
Thanks.

when you get to the trip meter...push and hold the button until it resets....it won't reset just by pushing and letting it off...you have to hold it in until it resets.

Ok, there is some information above which is incorrect (no offence), you will need more than a volt meter, amp meter to test your alternator. The alternator will charge the battery at around 14.5v, it regulates its charge by using a zenner diode and some transistors, when the voltage at the battery reaches 14.5 volts, the zenner breakdown voltage, the alternator rotor will be switched off therefore not inducing anymore current, this works vice versa. your alternator may be charging at 14.5v but it could have a diode down, this means during voltage rectification (sinusidal ac waves) voltage is added to the battery and the taken away, this is an alternating current and should not be present at the battery, if you can read an alternating current at the battery then your alternator needs replacing. I think this is what the above person was trying to say but just confused themselves a bit (no offence)
