basically, while UK relies on precedent rather than written a written constitution, the Charter, along with the 1982 Constitution, created an almost American-style governing document, complete with judicial review of legislation.

In effect, Canadain government took a big step away from the UK foundation of governance and made a foundation similar to the US'.

charter of rights and freedoms in Canada --made in Canada for Canadian citizens. U.K. has its own. so that makes two charters. voila. ps. in quebec there is another one also called la charte des droits et libertes. we are talking here semantics. most want to achieve what you and me not only wish but have a right too. hope it helps.
