Iroquois, like most eastern woodland peoples, used longhouses, as they would stay stationary for about 15 years at a time. tepees were mainly used by peoples of the plains, who migrated almost constantly, following game herds.

Teepees, mainly because they liked the pointy shape but also because it was easier to sleep in them because they weren't so drafty as the longhouses and they didn't really have to worry so much about insurance and things like that because they were only made from sticks and skin and that. and also finally the main reason they preferred the teepees was cos they were basically hippies and everyone knows that hippies like teepees so that's probably it
