I saw an edition of Hockey Night in Canada where one presenter quoted something that removes the smell of hockey gloves from your hands, but I cannot remember what it was.

Does anyone know? The program was within the last month for anyone with a good memory.

the smell is on my HANDS not my gloves, and the cleaner was something odd - margarine or baby oil or vodka or something not associated with clean hands.

If your gloves are leaving a smell on your hands that lasts past the shower you take after your game, you're not airing your gloves out enough.

I play four to five times a week, and coach two days on top of that --- I'm in my gloves sweating the whole time, and once I shower my hands don't smell like hockey anymore. (Nor does the rest of me, thank god.)

If there's a lingering smell after you wash your hands, there's got to be a heck of a lot of bacteria in your gloves making smells, and that can't be healthy. It's a good way to get fungus (there's a hand version of athlete's foot called tinea manus), so make sure you get your gloves out of your bag and somewhere where they'll dry between games.

I dry my gear out religiously, taking it out of my bag and hanging it up (in the winter when it's damp I hang it up down by the furnace in the basement just to speed up the drying process -- in the summer I toss it all out in the sun now and then... sunlight's better than febreeze or anything else for removing bacteria and odors) and haven't had a problem.

If your gloves are that potent right now, I'd get them cleaned, then start fresh (so to speak) with airing them every time. Or just buy some new gloves and keep up good habits with them.

Oh, and the two most common things people recommend for removing smells from your hands or other surfaces are lemon juice and vinegar. I'll bet you it was vinegar.

Febreeze works pretty good but the only way to eliminate hockey glove odor is to buy gloves with leather palms, your hands absolutely do not smell at all after using them. Many things help the stench but nothing eliminates it like he use of leather palms.

i personally set out all my gear next to a de-humidifyer after every practice or game. its kind of a pain but it gives the gear time to air out and everything still smells clean next time i use it

Febreeze works pretty well also try stuffing them with dryer sheets.
