I'm looking at Craigs List and in the San Deigo area they have listed an item in Carmel Valley... I looked it up on-line and all I found was the one way up north. I just moved here so maybe I'm just confused.

Hello - the person who posted above is right about the location of Carmel, CA.

But the one you're looking for - Carmel Valley, CA - is in north county San Diego. It's just south of the Del Mar/Solana Beach area and just north of La Jolla (where UCSD/Scripps are). That is the only Carmel Valley in San Diego. The zip code for Carmel Valley is 92130; if you google it, it's listed as "San Diego", but it's known as the Carmel Valley area.

Carmel Valley is a community within the city of San Diego.
It is north of Sorrento Valley / Sorrento Mesa, and east of Del Mar. Generally, if you drive up I-5 to 56, and get off the freeway there, or head east a little, you're in Carmel Valley. It is now a lot of new houses and a few office parks, but only 20 years ago, it was mostly farmland. A lot of the main street names there begin with Carmel: Carmel Valley Road, Carmel Country Road, Carmel Creek etc.
The valley does wind its way inland to Carmel Mountain / Mt. Carmel (which is closer to I-15). Pretty much the 56 highway goes the length of the valley.

The town of Carmel, which is near Monterey, is completely different, and Clint Eastwood once served as mayor of Carmel.

Carmel, is located 115 miles south of San Francisco by Monterey Bay. Formally called Carmel-By-The-Sea. I don't believe there is one located near SD.
