Haha, he didn't deserve it. He got close, but only because of biased NY writers. Thats a fact. NY Writers vote for Yankees every year.

He did not earn it he had worse stats than Morneau he is NOT a Gold Glove shortstop. Morneau carried a team for the better part of four months with clutch hits, and not Gold Glove caliber defense but good defense for a big guy. Regular season last 3-4 innings of a game you are behind by 1-2-3 runs a couple runners on you want a power hitter at the plate. Morneau was every bit as clutch as Jeter. Maybe Jeter has had hours of high lights for the past ten postseasons but Morneau was clearly the superior player. So get off your whiny little horse and bow down to the man from Vancouver BC, the Lumberjack.

I agree with Ozgard. Let's get over it. Both players had terrific seasons. I personally favor Morneau over Jeter as MVP. However, if Jeter had won it I certainly wouldn't have thought Morneau was robbed, just like I don't think Jeter was robbed. It was a close vote as it should have been.
As far ar the Chicago writer who voted Jeter 6th: Even if he voted Jeter 1st and Morneau 2nd, Morneau still would've won.
As an aside, the influence of NY writers in these types of votes gets overblown. Each city which has an American League team gets two votes in the MVP balloting. New York writers got two votes. So did Seattle writers. To imply that the influence of the New York writers is so great that writers from other cities make their decisions based in part on what a couple bozos from New York think is quite silly if you actually take a moment to think about it. :-)

Being the most popular player in New York does not qualify you as an MVP.
Several others in the AL had a better season than Jeter in 2006, and at least a dozen were more valuable to their team than Jeter was to the Yankees.
The Yankees would have went to the post season with or without Jeter.
The Twins would not have gone to the post season without Morneau.
In 2006, Morneau > Jeter. Jeter was not "robbed". He lost to the better man.

Derek Jeter was by far the MVP of the American League in 2006. Jeter is the perfect example of what baseball should be. A great player and captain of the greatest sports franchise in the world. Not only did he hit.343 and drive in 97 runs as a number two hitter but was the glue that kept the Yankees together while nearly everyone was on the DL. What more could have been asked by any player in baseball? Yes, he was robbed. I'm very disappointed in the baseball writers association and the rest who have a vote. They didn't do their job.

No one can answer because no one agrees on what the MVP is. I have a friend who eliminates all the non-playoff teams and picks the best player on the remaining teams. Some people think it should be the best player period. Then some say the guy with the biggest impact - so a great player on a crap team would win ...

Without a doubt. Numbers aren't everything but they are if you don't watch the game. How else can you explain someone voting Jeter sixth? Morneau is good but you can't expect someone hitting in the 2 hole to have 130 rbi's its just not possible. Leadership, Hits, Stolen Bases, Fielding, Average, Jeter had it all and he brought it to the field everyday, not to mention his hit streak.

He absolutely deserved it. JM did too, so it was worthy of the close vote. That kid had as many or more clutch hits than Jeter.
I thought the voters would be swayed by the way he carried the team through the injuries.
There probably is a bit of a backlash against the Yankees.
One could also argue that JM wasn't even the MVP of his own team...
Still, NY is all about the rings. Who cares about the MVP, really.

Jeter or Morneau should have won it, they are both good but certainly aren't MVP worthy this year, if anyone should have won it from the twins it should have been Mauer or Santana!!!
