Is there anybody who can explain how a car heat system works in general ???

According to me, it is nonsense but just wanna double check...Somebody told me that having the heat on while driving lead to higher gas consumption ????

Thank you for your answers

The heater has absolutely no effect on fuel consumption, unlike the a/c system. When the a/c is on, the air compressor is activated, which puts more resistance on the belt, causing the engine to work harder thus leading to worse gas mileage. The heat, on the other hand, is transferred by the blower motor forcing air through the heater core, which has engine coolant running through it, and into the passenger compartment. If you have problems with the car overheating, running the heater can even buy you some time because you have fresh air passing around the coolant lines not once, in the radiator, but twice, in both the radiator and the heater core.

My understanding was always that heat draws straight off the engine through the airfilter, but I'm probably wrong.

I do know that Mythbusters confirmed the myth that driving with the AC on leads to higher gas consumption, but I don't know about heat on...

Besides, I wouldn't care about a few extra sips of gas when it comes to freezing in my own vehicle...

Guess I was wrong about where your heat comes from...

Driving with the heat on doesn't reduce gas mileage.

yes it is nonsense. The heater core has coolant the circulates through it from the engine. As the engine heats so does the coolant, when it heats up you turn your blower on which in turn blows heat fron the heater core.
