My husband is an interpreter for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and through knowing his work and being involved in the Deaf culture for a period of time, I can venture to say that yes, they have been, perhaps not "insulted" but oppressed, definitely. People can be horrible to others, especially with what is considered a disability. There is even oppression and prejudice within the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community against one another.
It's very hard to try to ignore those comments, or to be patient when there's miscommunication and frustration, but the important thing is to be comfortable with yourself and to accept you are who you are and you're perfect the way you are.

My own mother will make fun of my father and his hearing aid. People can be cruel. I've had eight myringotomies (ear tubes) in my lifetime, so I'm sure my hearing is diminished. If someone made fun of me, I'd probably take my device out and quip that they're foamy, flapping lips aren't worth wasting my battery on.

YES... I wear a hearing aide but don't care if anyone notices or insults me because of it.
I sooooooooooooooo do not care what other people think. It has made life sooooooo good!
You must learn to live by this phrase : WHAT YOU THINK OF ME IS NONE OF MY BUSINESS !
As soon as you accept this your life will only get better!
HAPPY TUESDAY !
