What if your grandma was in a nursing home, and your dad was the go between with her money. It was his job to take her pension and pay the nursing home. But you've found out he stole the money, and the nursing home is talking about discharging her. She owes them 3 to 5 thousand dollars in unpaid rent. And now your dad is trying to skip town to get out of having to answer for it.
Can the nursing home kick her out? What would you do?

If your father is her power of attorney, as well as a signatory on her account, both of these need to be revoked if at all possible. If he is her Social security payee, then Social security needs to be notified and his payee status investigated for fraud and possibly revoked. Document EVERYTHING with dates and times. Get withdrawl statements from her bank if possible. She should be able to find a nursing home that will cover her with medicaid, however, if she has any tanglible assets, she will be required to liquidate them. If you know someone who is really trustworthy, she can sell them to that person, I think. Not sure if this is fraud or not. She needs a lawyer. And yes, call the police.

Hey, this is what happens when people don't plan properly, many people as they age should read this and sit down with close fmaily and entrust a few of them to handle these things As far as an answer, there isn't one, either pay up or get out, it's gonna cost money to live anywhere even a nursing home, which is actually more, maybe take her in and help her until she passes, it would be more pleasant for HER, and be hard for you but rewarding as well, what comes around goes around.

Oh my. You must be so sad and worried. I'm sure they can discharge her . What a terrible thing. I hope you can arrange something for her financially so she can stay , or ask a lawyer, or your civic leader, or maybe she can stay with you? God bless you all

Wow!

If you had the funds, I'd pay her bill, and then do my best to get myself put in charge of her finances.
