Here is your answer:
JETER DIDN'T DESERVE IT! THE ONLY REASON HE RECIEVED SO MANY POINTS IS BECAUSE OF NY WRITERS RIGGING IT! IT HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE MVP BEGAN!
Do your research. So many writers are from New York, and once again it looks like they have ALL favored Jeter. Thats the only reason he was so close. Jeter should have been ranked from #5-#10 in the AL. The only reason he was so close is the writers want a big Yankee name to win the MVP. Not Travis Hafner or David Ortiz.
Jeter wasn't as great as the ignorant yankee fan thought he was. He was a solid player, but not MVP worthy. Maybe close, but several people would have beaten him for second place if it weren't for the BIASED NY WRITERS:
David Ortiz, Travis Hafner, Frank Thomas, Jermaine Dye, Johan Santana (came in sixth I believe), Joe Mauer. I am guessing most of Jeter's points came from NY writers. SO SHUT UP, STOP WHINING, AND FACE THE FACTS. THE WRITERS MADE THE RIGHT DECISION.

NOTE: I realize I am going to be flamed by stubborn Yankee fans. I just needed them to realize that Jeter deserved NOTHING. Of course they know it, but won't admit it.

You can change what I said up there to one INTELLIGENT non yankees fan.
Jeter had no impact on his team. They finished 10+ games in first place.

Absolutely behind u on that. Some of these smaller cities have but one news paper,so naturally NY would dominate.Besides there is a lot of money behind them and they want to keep their jobs.It has been biased from day one.If these smaller franchise could spend money on players like the Yankees have, they wouldn't have won all those championships.

No see here was the problem. The MVP is based on HRs and RBIs. Plain and simple. People look at those stats and if you dont have them you dont win. They never take into account Batting Avg, OBP or Slugging. The best all around player may not have hit the most home runs. And even still, the stats dont lie
Jeter out-homered Morneau down the stretch. And while Morneau was batting .255 the last months of the season, Jeter was coming in 2nd in the batting crown race.
Now as for the right decision, no it wasnt. Plenty of other people deserved it more than Morneau. Hafner or Dye deserved it more. Hell his own teammate Joe Mauer might have deserved it more. Not to mention, a good defensive SS helps a team more than a decent defensive 1B.
The writers messed up, just by picking him. If Jeter would have lost to anyone else I dont think the Yankees fans would be so upset, but the fact that he lost to a guy who he out-homered down the stretch, plays better defense than, and had a better batting average than is just ridiculous.

New York writers "rigging it". Gee, A-Rod won MVP last year, the first time since 1985 that a Yankee player has won, even though they deserved consideration several times. Most of Jeter's points came from New York writers? DO you think all baseball writers come from New York? They are all over the country. You make no sense, none. Shut up and get YOUR facts straight.

Not that I think Jeter should have won, but you don't seem to understand how the process works. Saying "so many writers are from New York" as a reason New York players get more votes ignores the fact that balloting is not from all members of the Baseball Writers Association, but rather 2 from each city are chosen to vote for each MVP. Thus, New York writers have the same number of votes (2) as those from every other A.L. city.

Actually Joe, "retarded" is an outdated term that many deem to be offensive, and mentally challenged is more acceptable today. And by your rant (it's not really a question), you seem to be rather ignorant and mentally challenged yourself. As one of those Yankee fans you are insulting, I question the validity in YOUR argument. First of all, you seem to be using the Mitchell "Report" as point of reference as it named "22 Yankees" in it. First of all, most of those players barely played for the Yankees, for instance Jose Canseco, Dan Naulty, Bobby Estalella, or played for the Yankees when they didn't win any championships, such as Gary Sheffield, Kevin Brown, and Jason Giambi. Joe, the reason that Yankee fans are talking smack (and there are actually very few of us that are), is because Yankee haters, especially those from Boston, LOVED piling on the Yankees when that piece of trash report came out. Incidentally, the "author" George Mitchell, is a lifelong Red Sox fan and actually worked for the Red Sox. Could that be why he failed to mention that the Red Sox two best players at that time, David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez, failed drug tests for PEDs, two guys that had just a little to do with the Red Sox winning two championships?

Your argument would have been better served if you would have avoided the name calling. There is no call to refer to Yankees fans as ignorant. Why insult people who just happen to root for a team other than yours? Yankees fans endure a great deal of punishment in here and most of it has to do with envy or even jealously. You may very well have a valid point but somehow I couldn't get passed being called ignorant. I'm a retired sports journalist and always showed respect for others even if I didn't happen to agree with them. And by the way, it's clear that you don't understand the voting process. You have a nice day.

I am a Dodger fan and you should do some research before you spout off. New York writers only get two votes. So as a baseball fan I must say you don't know what the hell you are talking about. Sounds like you are just a Yankee hater who is glad Jeter lost. I say either get your facts right or shut the hell up.

Gotta love how you throw around the term ignorant but you don't even understand the voting process.
Who is ignorant now, MORON?
How about do some research before you go spewing from your pie hole parroting what you heard on sports radio on your way home from work.
Until David Ortiz drags his lazy fat *** out to first base once in a while he will continue to lose the MVP vote.

MAN YOU HAVE GOT TO BE THE BIGGEST MORON I'VE COME ACROSS ON YAHOO ANSWERS & THERE ARE ALOT OF THEM. EACH TEAMS WRITERS GET TWO VOTES THAT'S
ALL. DAVID ORTIZ SHOULD NEVER BE CONSIDERED FOR MVP BECAUSE HE CAN'T GET HIS FAT BUTT TO PLAY A
POSITION. WASN'T HAFNER INJURED FOR PART OF THE
SEASON? FRANK THOMAS IS ANOTHER CRIPPLE *** DH
THAT ALSO CAN'T PLAY A POSITION. JERMAINE DYE DIDN'T GET IT SINCE THE WHITE SOX WERE AN ALSO RAN IN THE AL CENTRAL. DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON PITCHERS & THE MVP. SO YOU SHUT UP & STOP GETTING YOUR FACTS WRONG.

Jeter had a great season, great player etc etc
but it was not the MOST valuable, anyone from NY is hardly the MOST valuable player because the impact is not as great because of the lineup.
Can anyone here even name the Twins lineup??
Jeter did deserve to be right up there, 2nd is reasonable, but I would have been disappointed had he won it because people like Morneau and Mauer deserved it more.

As an avid yankee hater, I'd have to say that Jeter totally deserved to be MVP. I'm a huge David Ortiz fan and a big Joe Mauer fan. Both of those guys had great seasons, but didn't have the impact that Jeter had.
Remember I hate the Yankees.
