1. It's apparent that our "friend" porkchop knows little about tires or what the size designations mean. If you change to the size he recommends, you'll have a tire that is the same width but about 1/4" shorter. Bad answer.
2. Why do you want a wider tire for the winter? Snow tires should actually be the same width or slightly narrower than a standard tire. This allows them to dig into the snow and gain better purchase. A wider tire will cause them to float on top of the snow.
3. I recommend you stay with the original size tire or perhaps change over to a 185/70-14.

in the winter you want a narrower tire for more psi on the road. 175/70/r14 will keep the same height and speed as a 185/65/r14. brand is all on how much you want to spend. the cheap tires wear faster.

a million difficulty is you place self belief in a monkey at COSTO who has no concept what a tire or a floor mop is. submit to in thoughts an quite old asserting. : the bitterness of damaging high quality keeps to be , long after the beauty of the low-priced keeps to be: purchase the tires that are recomended on your automobile except you're doing alterations. I definitely have long previous up 4 sizes in width and saved a similar diameter . look on your door pillar for the stated sizes. take a glance under to confirm if your sizes are close. greatest difficulty , is throwing the speedo off

try a 195 or 205. I changed the tire sizes for my van from a 185 to 205 and it offers more stability. As far as brands go thats really up to you and your driving habits. If you are into performance then Hankook and Kuhmo are good. If you are just for the everyday ride BFGoodrich and Michellin.

vwhobo gave the same answer I was thinking of, right down to why you DON'T want a wider tire. As far as brands go, there are many good ones. So, it boils down to your personal preference.
