Use the given conditions to write an equation for the line in point-slope form and in slope-intercept form.
Passing through (3,5) with x-intercept -2.
y-y1=m(x-x1)
1) In order to use the point-slope equation, we need the slope of the line and the coordinates of one point on the line. We know that the line passes through the point . We also know that the line passes through the given x-intercept . What are the coordinates of the given x-intercept? (-2,0)
Now we need to find the slope of the line passing through (3,5) and (-2,0).
The formula for the slope m of a non-vertical line given the points (x1,y1) and(x2,y2) is m=(y2-y1)
----------
(x2-x1)
m=1
To find the equation of the line, use either of the given points and the resulting slope. Substitute into the point-slope form of the equation of a line . y-y1=m(x-x1)
Simplify any signs if necessary. What is the point-slope form of the given line?

b) Notice that in the slope-intercept form, the y is isolated on the left side. Solve the point-slope equation y-5=x-3 for y to obtain the slope-intercept form of the given line. Keep in mind that the other point-slope equation,

y-0=1(x+2)using the x-intercept point ,(x2,y2)= (-2,0)

can also be used to obtain the slope-intercept equation.

It's actually all explained for you right there in your "question". Maybe it would help you to draw the line on a piece of graph paper. Plot the point (3,5), then the point (-2,0) and draw a straight line through them. It tells you that the slope (m) is 1. So for every step to the right, the line goes up one step. The point (3,5) is the same as (x1,y1) and (-2,0) is the same as (x2,y2). So you replace 3 for x1 in the point-slope form equation, and so on. It really helps to pay attention on class.

A is an unknown quantity. 5(a+15) is the sum of a+15 multiplied 5 times. Using the distributive property, 5(a+15) = 5(a) + 5(15) = 5a+75 So, 5a+75 = -25. If you subtract 75 from both sided of the equation, you will see that 5a = -100. Divide both sides by 5: a = -20
