Personally, I think it's rubbish. Yes, yes, I do understand where people are coming from..but come on. It's been a good 200 years since slavery. The last thing we need is more discrimination (or reverse discrimination) to "level out the playing field". And isn't it funny that the minority are just ASSUMED to have a disadvantaged socioeconomic background. "oh, you're black, so you MUST be poor." The law is colorblind. Or at least, it should be. Discrimination against any race (yes, even the whitey boys) is wrong. Everyone should work equally hard to get into a college of their choice. And everyone should have an equal chance of getting in.

I agree with affirmative action. Yes, 200 years since slavery, but the mentality is still alive here.
It's been through my personal experience, that if 2 equally qualified applicants applied for the same job, the white person would be hired before affirmative action, but since we have affirmative action, they hire the black person.
I know what you're gonna say, that's it's reverse discrimination, to that I say there's no such thing.
Just think about it, how many offices or companies have you walked in and seen a majority of white people, but 1 or 2 token black people. That's why it's needed, and it still doesn't make things fair.

Affirmative action is the only thing that gives black people an opportunity in a lot of businesses, and that's just the truth.

i think it probably harms a greater number of people than those it helps, including the minorities it is meant to assist. I try not to concern myself with it much as there are many out there who survive despite it or without it. I think it is an insult to minorities who are well deserving without 'leveling out the playing field." I would hate to work hard all my life and then have all of my success attributed to simply being a minority. I know that as Affirmative Action relates to gender...the thought of being 100% equally qualified as the next guy and being given the job because Im female is humiliating and nullifies my hardwork and qualifications. It is also unfounded in today's society because we have rich and poor of all race/ethnicities As you said, no race/ethnicity is directly linked to a low SES.

i did a paper on this in college and ended up going to a debate because of it. i won. i also disagree with affirmative action. by leveling out the playing field we are setting those "minorities" up for failure when they get into the real world. they still have to deal with the same things everyone else has to. as a country we are never going to catch up to the east as far as our education is concerned if we continue to focus on how to dumb down our society. instead of giving breaks to those from a lower
socioeconomic background..why not spend that money on improving schools in those areas so they won't be behind anymore.

I agree. It's unfair and people should not be hired by race to even out the colors in the company. Everyone is capable of educating themselves for the right qualifications.

I think it had a pupose back in the day, but now it is a joke! It is more discriminating than affirmative on anything these days.
