I'm an introvert and I agree, there is much mis-understanding of introverts. A good many people are extroverted and think we should be as well.
There is a book called "Please Understand Me" about different Meyers/Briggs personality profiles. A very interesting read and very supportive of peoples individual personality temperaments.
There are also a good many on-line tests. Enter Meyers/Briggs into your browser and look at the results.

One reason is because most extroverts don't internalize things like most introverts do.
