That's a trick question. I would say the AVERAGE teacher makes approximately $25-$27 per hour, IF he or she works a 40-hour week. Beginning teachers would make less, of course, and it varies state to state. In some states, teachers make a lot less, even after several years of teaching.
Now, let's get back to that 40-hour work week. Sure, some teachers may be able to get by with a 40 hour week. However, many teachers find that in order to get everything accomplished (planning, grading, helping students after school, copying, cleaning the classroom, lab preparation, shopping for supplies, etc.), the week is going to be a lot longer than 40 hours. My first year teaching, for example, required more than 60 hours a week, sometimes more. I doubt if you will find many good teachers that get to school when the students arrive and leave when they leave. Furthermore, many teachers have to buy classroom supplies with money out of their own pockets, so that deducts some income too.
Sorry if I didn't give you a straight answer but there really is not straight answer to this question.
