When sick with a flu, especially a fever, I notice a significant change in my thoughts, i feel depressed and anxious, no stress tolerance. As i get better my mood lifts. Also When I take over the counter antihistamine meds' (claritin) or Nyquil, i also feel the low mood. Could this be histamine disfunction?

I can't say that I get depressed when I get the flu. I guess I just get quiet and kind of a "poor me" attitude if I really feel bad, but usually I just stay to myself. If you continually have what you consider to be a bad reaction to a certain brand, I would definitely not use that. Try another similar medicine with different medications in it.

Yes.

This is a very common feeling when we get a cold or the Flu.
A fever, also will cause us to be depressed and a bit anxious.

Our body is a wonderful and very defensive mechanism.

Our system slows down and prepares to fight the cold, flu or fever. Our systems produces anti-bodies to fight the Illness.

Also, the introduction of medication slows down our bodies even further. Most antihistamines make us sleepy and even more subdued. So, we should not drive or use machinery....It is very dangerous.

As my physician once said to me: Billy, your cold will last 14 days...and two weeks with NyQuil.... smiles.

Stay Healthy and be well.

I also get depressed when I get the flu, or whenever I get sick... Who wouldn't, anyway? It prevents me from doing the usual things that I do... and worst, it causes so many discomforts and pain too.! Antihistamines are one of those drugs that cause drowsiness which slow down body reflexes.... That may explain feeling the 'low mood' when taking it.
