It depends on the age of your child. McD's , Burger King, etc. have birthday parties. Little kids love them because they have fries and a play set. The moms will love it because it is in a confined area so they can watch their child and talk to an adult at the same time. You'll love it because it is cheap and easy. They will usually give you a "waitress or party tender" for no charge. You just buy the kids' meals and bring your own cake.

Check if there is a local dance studio in your area because some do birthday parties (that is of course more fun for the girls).
Another really good place is Pump It Up! if you have one in your area. It's a really cool place, im 17 and i went with my best friend's little brother. Instead of paying for your own inflatable jumper they have them blown up in the building where they can jump, run around and have fun. They also have special party rooms to eat and have cake

It depends completely on the age and gender of the children, but my daughter just gave her 5-year-old daughter a great party. All of the little girls were asked to come dressed as a princess and we painted fingernails. At the dollar store, she found a hairbrush for each child and painted their name on it, then we gave them new hairdos and let them keep the brushes. She bought some ribbons to put in their hair.
One advantage to having them dress up like princesses is that they ACTED like princesses. They were sweet and dainty and it was a great party!
