I am trying to come up with an idea for an image that relates to what maintinence to the interior of a home helps prevent damage to it. Ex. By allowing sunlight in it helps prevent mold, or by venting air it helps prevent moisture buildup, or preventing rust and corrosion in a water heater and so on...
Basically, what image or picture comes to mind when you think of this??

The reason I gave a few examples is because i want a general image. I am trying to think of an image to go along wtih an article that talks about preventing damage to the inside of your home caused by mold, rust, mildew and other corrosion

I think of two things: my grandmother pointing her finger at me and saying " an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure ", and a guy holding a box of new light bulbs climbing up a ladder to replace a still working light bulb, with a rag in one hand so the hot bulb does not burn his fingers.

I've read and re-read your Q.... and can't get an image because your first two examples of damage have to do with moisture and keeping the interior of the home dry. Your third example has absolutely nothing to do with the first two. Preventing damage to your water heater and the moisture problems in a home really depend on what part of the country or world you live, the humidity levels and the quality of the water.

You asked -- what "image" or "picture". You may have to come up with more than one. Wish I could help but nothing comes to mind.

Good Luck!!

I think moisture management is a very good article basis. As someone stated, too dry can be a problem too, but generally excess moisture is indeed the major problem.

Let's go from ground up: drainage around the house, sump pumps in the basement, proper vapor barrier in the exterior walls, proper "sheet rock" on moisture walls (bathrooms, etc), proper air exchange in the heating system eliminating negative air and condensation on the metal window frames, chaulking and grout, ventilation in bathrooms, kitchen, laundry; plumbing leaks, maintaining drains and traps in bathroom, kitchen and appliances, gaskets in refrigerator, air circulation, insulation in walls and ceiling, root ventilation, moisture damage to wood exteriors (decks is mainly what I'm thinking about), roof sunlight (that moss growth--yuck), leaves in santiary stacks, keeping gutter cleaned and properly angled for optimum runoff which brings me back to drainage around the house.......phew!
