List and explain 3 things the government should monitor now in 2006. (hint-something we use everyday).

The rude things some people say! And all you did is ask for some help. Government should definitely monitor items where it could be in someone's self interest to harm or cheat the public at large. I'll give you an example from my life as to WHY some forms of regulation are needed. I owned a bicycle store, and in one shipment of bicycles the manufacturer substituted an inferior part that put the safety of purchasers in jeopardy. Why did the manufacturer do it? They saved money and knew they could get away with it. Enough said on the why, here's some examples:

Food safety, truth in labeling of products, regulating natural monopolies (as in electricity), product safety, etc.

The common thread is a situation where personal interest of the provider might be contrary to the public good. The list is, regretably, long. I don't think you'll have too much trouble coming up with other items if you need them.

I personally think the government ought to monitor chat rooms. Too many pedophiles out there trying to swoon young kids. If you don't like it, don't go into a chat room. Those things are all nasty anyway.

The government ought to do a better job of monitoring gun sales.

And last but certainly not least, the government simply ought to monitor our borders. Believe it or not, they don't, and that's inconceivable.
