Why do so many Americans hate the French if the French fought on Americas side during the revolutionary war? 1. Most Americans don't hate the French. 2. The French are the ones with a reputation for hating Americans. Then again, the French hate everyone who isn't French.

Great Britain. It was fought in the 1770's because of the crap Britain was giving us. We were a British Colony at the time. The British were Taxing us silly. Whenever we tried to rebel, the colonists were shot. Also, King George III passed the intolerable acts, which was Ridiculous laws such as giving shelter to any British Soldier. So our Colonial leaders declared independence from England and put General Washington in Charge.

The American Colonies, as they were referred to at the time, went to war with the vastly more powerful Great Britain. As if that wasn't bad enough, the British Army was comprised of not only soldiers from England but also Scotland, Ireland as well as German mercenaries called Hessians.
