xanax is a controlled substance and has a risk of addiction. Your doctor is trying to keep you from getting addicted. The longer you take it the more you will need and the less able you will feel to function with out it. You need to discuss with your doctor alternatives for dealing with you anxiety such as therapy or drugs with less risk of addiction. If you do come off the xanax make sure you taper off and dont stop cold turkey. If you do you will have withdrawl symptoms which will make you want to take it more.

You have an Rx for Xanax but cannot spell it correctly?? Xanax is usually prescribed for a course of 3 to 4 months only so this is why she would like you to come off. Perhaps you have have some issues that you could resolved that would also help. Meantime Xanax CAN be addictive but not all those who take it become addicted.

Laurie, y did she prescribe zanax in the first place? I am 37, was on zanax ONLY as needed (mostly at night to help me sleep) in July of '05. ...due to extreme Anxiety Attacks. Did she give you anything in addition to this medicine? Docs do not like to keep refilling the Xanax due to the fact that it is a highly addictive medication. This is not Zantac for your stomach right? It is Xanax to help calm you down?

Write out why you think the Xanax is working. Make a formal approach to the subject with her. If that does not work, change doctors. It is you that is paying, anyway.
