How do I REDUCE the default "Max Write Speed" in Nero?

It keeps wanting to burn a disk at 40x but I keep getting coasters going that fast. Instead of having to lower it each time I burn a disk, is there a way I can modify the defaults in Nero or on my CD/DVD burner to always be either 16x (for example)?

usually when you click on burn there will be a dialog box and one of the tabs has the write speed option.

there should be a pull down menu to write at a slower speed..if not you can write double pass depending on what version you have.
