x-sub-1 (or x1) = 2
x-sub-2 (or x2) = 5
x-sub-3 (or x3) = 11
x-sub-4 (or x4) = 23

x1 + (x1 + 1) = 2x1 + 1 = x2
x2 + (x2 + 1) = 2x2 + 1 = x3
x3 + (x3 + 1) = 2x3 + 1 = x4

The pattern:

x-sub-(n+1) (where n is a positive non-zero integer) = [2*(x-sub-n) + 1], where x1 = 2.

2 5 11 23 47
2 + 3 = 5
5+ 6 = 11
11 + 12 = 23
23+ 24 = 47
you will notice that the second number in each equation is a multiple of 3
double the difference between the two numbers add it the next number in sequence and you get the following number
the next number in sequence would be 95 by
47-23 = 24
24 * 2 = 48
47 + 48 = 95

Each new number is double the previous number plus one.

2 + 2 + 1 = 5

5 + 5 + 1 = 11

11 + 11 + 1 = 23

etc.

Best wishes.

from 2 to 5, you add 3
from 5 to 11, you add 6
from 11 to 23, you add 12
from 23 to 47, you add 24

that means for the next number, you add twice the number that you have to add to the previous sequence.
