Morneau had good stats, but he plays in a state that most people never heard of. Who, besides Jeter, could do what he does on the biggest, brightest stage on Earth. That's alright. Jeter and I are about TEAM championships that are decided on the field, not individual awards decided by some crack smoking, Yankee hating sports writers.
Real fans know the best player in baseball is DE-REK!!! JE-TER!!!

That or drinking heavily, their is a definite New York bias with Willie Randolph not winning manager of the year (losing to a Giradi a guy with a losing record ). Now this, it is pure jealousy against New York teams and its disgusting I hope the Yankees and Mets play in the next five World Series.

ADD: Morneau isnt even the best player on his team, third best is being charitable, and he wins the MVP?? You will never hear of him again. For people that say the Twins wouldnt win without him well they certainly lost with him when Liriano got hurt he was playing and they nosedived. Jeter was like a rock this year when the Yankees went through all those injuries. People are going to say all the NY fans do is whine when things don't go their way, but look at Jeter he is the epitome of what a baseball player should be, on and off the field. No way should he have lost the MVP this year.

If the Yankees would have survived the series against the Tigers and made it to the world series, then Jeter should have gotten more recognization. Of course, the MVP is about the season, not the playoffs, but Jeter plays in New York, and many out there prefer to tune out the New York hype, which ends up hurting all-star players like Jeter.

Jeter is definitely a franchise player. I have no argument there. Would the Twins have taken their division without Morneau's help? Doubtful at best. Jeter's got a stellar supporting cast and Morneau's has only Mauer and Hunter to back him in the lineup. He doesn't have an all-star at every position to back him up and that makes his numbers all the more incredible.

BTW the only ones smoking crack are the Yankee fans who haven't won a championship since 2000 and continue to spend like there's no tomorrow.

It's about time somebody stood up to Yankee Nation!

I agree, I lost some respect today for the media. He's not even the most valuable player on his team. I was'nt for Jeter either, i thought it should have been Ortiz or Johan or Jeter, I think they could'nt decide between Jeter and Ortiz so they took the middle ground, bunch of phonies. I'm going to check what the sporting news says from now on. Too much Yankee hating, i don't like the yaks either, but thats no excuse for not voting Jeter over Morneau.

I think the writers saw that Morneau's overall numbers were the most solid. Had a very good average at .329 more HRs than Jeter but less than Ortiz more RBI than Jeter but less than Ortiz. The Yankees just have too many good players for anyone on that team to be MVP.

This is kind of funny.. Jeter shouldn't have even been top 5.

I agree with one part: Were the voters smoking crack, to even consider Jeter as MVP?

Morneau should have ranked 4th, Jeter should have been ranked anywhere from 5-10. Thomas, Ortiz, Mauer, Dye, and Hafner all deserved it more than Jeter. However, the NY press always votes for the Yankees. They should burn in hell along with all other Yankees who ruined the game, the bastards bought baseball and ruined it. Yankees fans think money is all that baseball is about, they deserve to be banned from baseball as much as Bonds does.

By the way Carlos, the only reason Jeter finished in the top 10 is BECAUSE he is a Yankee. The Yankee Writers vote for him, and he shouldn't have scored a point. He did little for his stacked team, they would have taken the playoffs anyway, and since they got smoked out of the playoffs, he was useless.

Agree Nac the voting is a joke by pencil pushing idiots that never played the game or got kicked off their teeball teams. Jeter proves it year in and year out that he can do it all and yet the so called knowledgeable sportswriters choose to ignore his accomplishments simply because he is a Yankee and of course don't forget he is held to a special standard for NYY players. Give the ballots to the players, the managers and former major leaguers to vote on take it away from the writers who never played the game.
