You will NEVER get rid of them unless you disable cookies in your explorer settings but if you DO disable them, you wont get into many websites! Most sites wont let you see their content unless your PC has accepted a cookie!

If using MS INternet Explorer, go to TOOLS, then INTERNET OPTIONS, click the PRIVACT TAB, You will see a Meter Level that allows you to adjust the appropriate level of "Cookies Filtering" for you particular web surfing habits. You can adjust it to completely block out all cookies (which may interfere with the use of some sites) or you can find some middle ground. If you log-in to high security sites such as Online Banking etc, you will need to allow the site to have access to place cookies onto your computer for it to work properly.
You can actually tell the computer which sites to accept cookies from, and which ones to reject. Just hit the EDIT button once you are in the PRIVACY TAB by following the instructions above. Hope this helps.

For The Latest Version of Internet Explorer
Click on the word Tools, which is contained in your top tool bar area.
This will pull down a menu for you to now click on Internet Options.
Then click on the Privacy tab located at the top of the options windows.
Then click on the Advanced tab to bring up the Advanced Privacy Settings windows.
This is the area where you can define how Cookies are handled on your system etc.

Cookies are necessary to remember your favorite setting, such as search settings which is what you mentioned, one way is to set to the cookies to expire automatically, and if your running Firefox, download the Stealther extension and leave it running infinitely

Most of the internet browsers have options to block them. I Googled with "how to block cookie" and found lot of interestiong hits.
To narrow your search, you could add you browser name in search box.

well this depends on which browser you use, I use mozilla firefox. In firefox, just go to tools, then options, the cookies tab, and disallow sites to set cookies...I think that should work
