A rat's gestation period lasts approximately 21 days. You may expect a litter ranging in size from 6 to 24 rats, with the average litter being about 12 rats. Depending on the size of the litter, the birthing process can normally take an hour or two. How do rats reproduce?, well i guess a male and female have sex.

Rats reproduce the same as any other creature, they have sex. It only lasts for a few seconds to a minute, like most animals. The gestation(how long they are pregnant) is about 3 weeks(21 days). They can have over 20 babies, although about 10 is most common. They can get pregnant again straight after giving birth. If the female gets very stressed straight after mating, she can hold onto the sperm and delay the pregnancy for a few weeks or more. Rats are sexually active at 5 weeks.

if you don't already know. second part a rat can reproduce every
3 months and anywhere from 3 to 8 babies (pinkies) thats what they are called.

Rats are mammals, so they reproduce like all other mammals.
As far as a gestation period, I'm not sure how long, but I think pretty short and they have many babies per pregnancy.
