The irony of the whole situation is that much of our smog pollution is actually composed of ozone but at the inappropriate altitude it is just another harmful airborne chemical. The ozone layer is naturally replenished whenever there are large volcano eruptions as the ozone is propelled to a sufficient height to be useful in blocking harmful radiation from the sun. The best way to solve the problem with the ozone layer is the same way we need to solve climate change, animal extinction etc... The Western world needs to start looking for alternatives to fossil fuels, recycle materials, and generally live less wasteful lives. This change comes at a cost to everyone and hopefully we as a people can embrace that cost before it is too late and everyone pays the ultimate cost of our poor stewardship of Mother Earth.
